Toyota's 2025 Sales: So Close Yet So Far - What's Next for the Brand? (2026)

Toyota narrowly missed setting a new sales record in 2025, falling just 1434 units short. This is less than 1% of their overall volume, a close call that highlights Toyota's strong performance. Here's a breakdown of where the brand fell short and where it excelled.

The RAV4, Toyota's top-selling model, slipped 11.5% in 2025, with 51,947 units sold. This was expected, given the recent release of a new generation, with buyers potentially holding off for the latest version. Similarly, the HiLux ute range saw a 4.1% drop in sales, with 51,297 units sold, despite a major update just before year-end.

Other models that took a hit include the Camry (down 36.0%, 9860 sold), Corolla (down 21.1%, 18,968), Kluger (down 17.9%, 8098), and LandCruiser (ute sales down 13.6%, 10,301; wagon version down 19.4%, 12,290).

However, Toyota's news wasn't all bad. The Corolla Cross jumped 42.5% (12,686), the Fortuner lifted 12.0% (3407), and the Yaris and Yaris Cross both increased in sales, with the Yaris up 23.8% (2801) and the Yaris Cross up 33.2% (10,928).

The Prado saw a remarkable 166.3% sales leap in 2025, recovering from a gap between generations in 2024, with 26,106 units sold.

Looking ahead, Toyota is poised for a strong 2026. The new HiLux will provide a solid sales base, despite being a refreshed model rather than a full-generation change. The top-selling RAV4 is also set for a strong year with a new-generation launch and plug-in hybrid models in Australia.

Toyota will also launch a larger electric SUV, the bZ4X Touring, in 2026, adding volume to HiLux sales with an electric version. Additional HiLux variants will be available early in the year, offering a full range of options. The LandCruiser 300 Series will be available with a petrol-hybrid engine for the first time, while other models will receive regular updates.
