The Goat Simulator creators, Oscar Jilsén and Mikael Mård, are back with a new venture, Feeble Minds, and an exciting project in the works. The duo, along with a talented team, has unveiled their debut game, Serpent’s Gaze, a unique blend of co-op and roguelike elements with a soulslike twist. This announcement marks a significant step in the gaming industry, as the team aims to fill a gap in the market for cooperative roguelikes with a soul-inspired gameplay experience.
The team behind Feeble Minds includes Jannik Reuterberg, Johan Gustafsson, Sofie Irenheim, Marloes de Graaf, and Clara Lindblad Åman. Reuterberg, the CEO, highlights the team's passion for gaming and their desire to create a game that combines the best of both worlds: cooperative gameplay and the challenging, rewarding nature of roguelikes. Gustafsson, the CTO, adds a personal touch, sharing his journey from leaving Paradox Interactive to pursue his dreams, resulting in the development of Serpent’s Gaze.
Coffee Stain, the original studio founded by Jilsén and Mård, gained fame with Goat Simulator in 2014. The studio's success led to its acquisition by THQ Nordic (now Embracer Group) in 2018. Coffee Stain's publishing arm, established in 2017, has been instrumental in publishing hits like Deep Rock Galactic and Valheim, selling over eight and ten million copies, respectively. The Embracer Group's recent decision to split into three companies has paved the way for the emergence of Feeble Minds and other independent studios.
Feeble Minds is not the only new venture from former Coffee Stain employees. In February, a group of former staff, including members from Mojang, launched Three Friends, a new indie publisher. This wave of new studios and publishers showcases the vibrant and dynamic nature of the gaming industry, where creativity and innovation thrive, and the gaming landscape continues to evolve and expand.
