Breaking News: Jets' Star Garrett Wilson Sidelines for the Season!
It's a tough blow for New York Jets fans as wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 season. Coach Aaron Glenn confirmed the news on Friday, just before the team's upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints. This means we won't see Wilson on the field again until the offseason program kicks off.
Wilson's season has been hampered by a knee injury, keeping him sidelined since November 9th. Before the injury, he managed to play in seven games, catching 36 passes for 395 receiving yards and scoring four touchdowns. Coach Glenn emphasized the importance of Wilson's recovery, stating the team's priority is to get him fully healthy for the offseason. This decision, Glenn said, was made in agreement with Wilson himself.
But here's where it gets controversial... Wilson is entering the final year of his rookie contract in the 2026 season. However, he's already locked in with a massive four-year, $130 million extension, including $90 million in guarantees, which will keep him with the Jets through the 2030 season. This agreement was made back in July.
The initial knee injury occurred on October 12th during a Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos in London. While he did return in Week 10, Wilson only played 19 snaps before leaving the game against the Cleveland Browns on November 9th. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve on November 13th.
The Jets' playoff hopes have already been dashed after their Week 14 loss to the Miami Dolphins. The team's remaining schedule includes a home game against the New England Patriots on December 28th and a road game against the Buffalo Bills on January 4th. Rookie quarterback Brady Cook will have to continue without Wilson, with this weekend's game potentially serving as an audition for a larger role in the 2026 season.
And this is the part most people miss... The Jets are clearly playing it safe with Wilson, prioritizing his long-term health over immediate game contributions. This strategy aims to ensure he's fully ready for the 2026 season and beyond.
What do you think about the Jets' decision to shut down Wilson for the season? Do you agree with the team's cautious approach, or would you have preferred to see him play if he was able? Share your thoughts in the comments!
