Colzani stresses the importance of coordinated public health actions to prevent the virus from spreading further.
The European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA) reports that many bird flu infections this autumn were found in waterfowl, including seemingly healthy birds, and were caused by a rapidly spreading new variant of the virus. This development further underscores the need for proactive measures to protect both animal and human health. European health and food safety officials have previously warned that avian influenza viruses could mutate to become more easily transmissible to humans, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing challenge.
